BREAKING NEWS
One of the latest breakthroughs in Turkey’s defense industry has come from TÜBİTAK SAGE, which has developed fully indigenous missile systems equipped with national guidance technologies. These missiles integrate precision guidance kits such as ATLAS, KAŞİF, and KONUM-01, ensuring maximum strike accuracy. Thanks to locally produced Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers and antennas, operational reliability is enhanced while foreign dependency is significantly reduced. Among these, KONUM-01 stands out as an active antenna operating in the L1/L2 bands, specifically designed for military applications.
According to Defense Industry Researcher Anıl Şahin, these systems have been created as alternatives to international navigation networks like GPS and GLONASS. This gives Turkey the ability to conduct highly precise navigation, guidance, and control operations independently. The ATLAS Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) plays a particularly critical role in ensuring effective guidance in smart munitions. By using these national technologies, Turkish missiles not only achieve higher accuracy but also provide cost-effective solutions, granting the armed forces a significant strategic advantage.
The vision of an independent defense infrastructure is further supported by the “Regional Positioning and Timing System,” a component of Turkey’s National Space Program announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. TÜBİTAK SAGE’s advancements in this field are of immense importance, both for secure supply chains and operational safety in the field. These systems help mitigate security risks while ensuring greater autonomy in military operations.
The development of indigenous missiles and guidance kits is a concrete example of Turkey’s localization efforts in the defense sector. Beyond strengthening the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) with advanced technology, these systems also carry considerable export potential, enhancing Turkey’s competitive edge in the global defense market. With national systems integrated, the country’s missiles now symbolize technological superiority, cost efficiency, and operational reliability.
