BREAKING NEWS
Turkey’s defense industry is approaching a major milestone in medium-caliber weapon systems. SARSILMAZ, one of Turkey’s leading defense companies, showcased its next-generation weapon solutions—most notably the national 25 mm TRM Cannon—at the World Defense Show 2026 held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The new system stands out as a key development aimed at ending Turkey’s reliance on foreign suppliers in this critical capability area.
According to statements by Oğuz Çetintürk, Business Development and International Sales Manager at SARSILMAZ, the 25 mm TRM Cannon was developed by TR Mekatronik, a company jointly established by SARSILMAZ and Turkish Aerospace Industries with equal shares. Building on the extensive engineering experience gained from the ATAK helicopter nose gun project, the partnership successfully transitioned this expertise into a robust medium-caliber weapon system designed for land and naval platforms.
Medium-caliber 25 mm weapon systems are developed by only a limited number of countries and companies worldwide due to their high technical complexity. The 25 mm TRM Cannon offers an effective range exceeding 2 kilometers and delivers significant ballistic destructive power, enabling it to neutralize armored threats. When integrated onto 4x4 or 8x8 armored vehicles, the system provides the ability to engage and disable hostile armored targets from long distances, offering a decisive force multiplier on the battlefield. Most of the demanding qualification and endurance tests defined by Turkey’s defense authorities have already been successfully completed.
The cannon is expected to enter service initially under the Special Purpose Tactical Wheeled Armored Vehicle Project, integrated with platforms developed by FNSS and turrets supplied by ASELSAN. While primarily designed for land platforms, the system can also be adapted for naval use without requiring a new design process—only minor modifications such as paint and connector changes are sufficient.
Officials emphasize that the induction of the 25 mm TRM Cannon into the Turkish Armed Forces inventory will significantly strengthen Turkey’s domestic capabilities in medium-caliber weapon systems and further enhance the global competitiveness of its defense industry.
