BREAKING NEWS
The Turkish Navy has added a significant asset to its “Blue Homeland” defense capability with the modernization of TCG ORUÇREİS (F-245). Under the BARBAROS-Class Frigate Combat Management System Development Project, the ship underwent extensive upgrades led by HAVELSAN. The project centered around the ADVENT Combat Management System (CMS), designed with a distributed, redundant, and fault-tolerant architecture, providing a unified tactical picture and advanced decision-support capability across all warfare domains.
Through the modernization, over 30 new and legacy systems — both indigenous and foreign — were fully integrated with ADVENT CMS. These include ATMACA and Harpoon anti-ship missiles, Mk41 Vertical Launch System with ESSM air defense missiles, 127mm naval gun, 25mm stabilized cannon, Phalanx CIWS, AKREP Fire Control Radar, search radars, national IFF system, and tactical data links. The integration grants TCG ORUÇREİS enhanced situational awareness and engagement capabilities against air, surface, subsurface, electronic, and asymmetric threats. The ship now features network-enabled warfare functions such as rule-based decision support, fully integrated tactical data links, mission continuity training, and seamless helicopter/aircraft tactical control.
HAVELSAN developed over six million lines of source code and integrated more than 700 applications within the project. Upgrades also included a fully redundant network infrastructure, 4K image processing and recording systems, radar/TV digitalization, redesigned Combat Information Center and Tactical Operations Center, and renewed power and cooling systems. Sea and harbor acceptance tests conducted in Gölcük, Yalova, Bandırma, and the Gulf of Saros throughout 2024 confirmed the system’s operational readiness — with successful live-fire trials against land, air, and surface targets.
Having participated in the “Denizkurdu-1” (January 2025) and “Denizkurdu-2” (May 2025) exercises, TCG ORUÇREİS has proven itself as one of the Navy’s most capable and modern warships. Thanks to ADVENT’s advanced architecture, the frigate now offers extended engagement range, higher precision, faster reaction time, and superior multi-domain coordination. With these capabilities, the BARBAROS-class frigates have evolved into versatile, resilient platforms — capable of sustained missions, multi-threat defense, and joint operations in the demanding conditions of the open seas.
