TAI General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu stated at an event in Kastamonu, northern Türkiye, that Spain intends to purchase 15 additional advanced trainer aircraft beyond its current 30-unit Hürjet contract. Deliveries for this expanded order are expected to begin in 2028. Demiroğlu emphasized that Spain demonstrated confidence in the platform by placing an order for 30 aircraft even before deliveries to Türkiye's own Air Force commenced.
TAI's organizational structure and production capacity exemplify the strength of the Turkish defense industry ecosystem. The company consolidates operations on a single campus encompassing the domestically developed KAAN fighter jet, Hürjet and Hürkuş trainer aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, satellites, and aircraft components. Demiroğlu noted that testing and manufacturing across six distinct fields are conducted at the facility, describing it as a source of national pride and highlighting that TAI employs 16,500 personnel.
The Hürjet integrates advanced training and light attack capabilities within a single platform. The system is versatile, suitable for pilot training through operational missions. Developed by Turkish defense industry, this platform features NATO-compatible avionics and weapons integration. The Hürkuş series targets 55 total deliveries through 2028, with 12 aircraft scheduled for delivery by year-end. Azerbaijan has been identified as an export customer for Hürkuş, and TAI aims to secure additional international orders. The 30-aircraft Hürjet contract, valued at approximately 2.6 billion euros (nearly $2.9 billion), was finalized in December 2025.
Turkish defense industry has achieved significant prominence in the international arena since the early 2020s. Successes by TAI and other domestic manufacturers have amplified global interest in Türkiye's technological and engineering capabilities. The rising demand from NATO allies such as Spain for Turkish products demonstrates the international recognition of these achievements. Demiroğlu underscored that Türkiye's defense industry accomplishments have elevated the nation's international standing and generated growing admiration for its technology and capabilities.
In the global trainer aircraft market, Hürjet competes with established systems including the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II and Pilatus PC-21. The Hürjet's NATO compatibility, modern avionics suite, and cost-effectiveness position it as an attractive alternative for European and NATO nations. Demiroğlu emphasized that Türkiye's defense industry success strengthens the nation's international position and has generated growing international admiration. The country's deterrence objective centers on building robust defense capacity aimed at conflict prevention rather than conflict engagement.
