BREAKING NEWS
The Turkish Armed Forces have been reinforced with one of the latest achievements of Türkiye’s defense industry: the New Generation Fırtına Howitzers. Developed and produced by BMC Defense, six upgraded howitzers were handed over during a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The delivery marks another critical step in Türkiye’s pursuit of independence and self-reliance in defense technologies.
BMC Chairman Fuat Tosyalı emphasized that this project is not merely a commercial initiative but a strategic investment for the homeland. He noted that under the supervision of the Ministry of National Defense, BMC has been working to enhance the capabilities not only of the Fırtına howitzers but also of Türkiye’s main battle tanks.
The New Generation Fırtına Howitzers are set to become fully indigenous by 2025, thanks to ongoing projects for locally developed engines and transmissions. Once completed, the program will add 140 howitzers to the Turkish Armed Forces’ inventory. In addition, development efforts continue on the Altay main battle tank and the Panter howitzers, further strengthening Türkiye’s technological capabilities and strategic independence.
Tosyalı also highlighted BMC’s strong global standing, noting that the company has become an export leader among land systems manufacturers. He stated that BMC’s achievements contribute to enhancing Türkiye’s competitiveness and reputation in the international defense market.
The induction of the New Generation Fırtına Howitzers into the Turkish Armed Forces reflects Türkiye’s determination to expand its domestic production capacity and reduce foreign dependency. This development not only strengthens national security but also solidifies Türkiye’s growing influence in the global defense industry.
