BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s defense industry is on the verge of adding a new capability to its unmanned aerial platforms with the soon-to-be-inducted DOĞAN UAV. Developed by DASAL Aviation Technologies—an ASELSAN and ALTINAY joint venture—DOĞAN was showcased at the 15th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2021) as a unique armed UAV equipped with a 5.56-millimeter automatic infantry rifle mounted on a two-axis stabilized pedestal. This design allows the system to deliver precise and stabilized fire even while airborne, setting it apart from similar platforms worldwide.
DOĞAN incorporates advanced artificial intelligence and image-processing technologies developed entirely in Türkiye. These systems enable autonomous target detection, identification, tracking and engagement through the onboard camera feed. Depending on mission needs, the UAV can carry between 100 and 200 rounds of ammunition, providing flexible fire solutions in both single and burst firing modes. Its anti-jam protection further strengthens its survivability in contested electromagnetic environments.
The platform offers powerful situational awareness capabilities thanks to its thermal and daylight cameras, which allow operators to identify and analyze threats far beyond the limits of the human eye. These features make DOĞAN especially effective in night missions, low-visibility conditions and complex urban scenarios. The weapon recoil is absorbed by a specially engineered damping system, ensuring high stabilization and allowing pinpoint accuracy.
According to DASAL Project Manager Caner Yüksel, DOĞAN has undergone extensive test flights and live-fire trials. The system is now preparing for final demonstration flights before being officially added to Türkiye’s inventory. DOĞAN can fly up to 10 kilometers to engage a target and return, while maintaining a maximum endurance of 30 minutes at full capacity—a level of performance that places it ahead of many foreign counterparts. The platform’s 360-degree rotating turret, increased ammunition capacity and user-friendly interface further enhance its operational versatility.
With its “infantry UAV” concept, DOĞAN aims to reduce casualties by enabling precise engagement of threats from above and at a safe distance, providing a significant tactical advantage to security forces. Once commissioned, DOĞAN will strengthen Türkiye’s expanding unmanned systems portfolio and further solidify its position as a pioneer in innovative defense technologies.
