Two additional HÜRKUŞ II next-generation basic training aircraft have been accepted by the Defense Industry Agency and Turkish Air Force Command, bringing the total number of HÜRKUŞ aircraft in the Air Force inventory to 4 units. TUSAŞ serves as the prime contractor for the program. Defense Industry Agency President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün announced the development, emphasizing that deliveries are proceeding as planned.
TUSAŞ is a leading organization in Turkey's aerospace and defense sector, having assumed the role of prime contractor for the HÜRKUŞ program. Founded in 1994, the company has played a critical role in advancing Turkish defense industry capabilities. TUSAŞ maintains a broad product portfolio ranging from the KAAN national combat aircraft to the HÜRJET advanced trainer. The HÜRKUŞ project demonstrates the company's expertise in basic training platforms and reinforces Turkey's independence in indigenous aviation technology.
The HÜRKUŞ II is designed for basic flight training of pilot candidates and is equipped with advanced avionics systems and software infrastructure. The aircraft forms the first step in a pilot training progression that extends from basic training through advanced jet training (HÜRJET) to the national combat aircraft KAAN. HÜRKUŞ design incorporates agile maneuverability, advanced avionics, and user-friendly control systems to provide all necessary basic training capabilities. The platform is characterized as a class-leading solution for fundamental pilot instruction.
The Turkish defense industry ecosystem has made substantial contributions to the HÜRKUŞ program. ASELSAN provides avionics systems, HAVELSAN supplies digital video recording systems, TASECS provides air conditioning solutions, and KAREL supplies backup flight instruments. Additionally, TUSAŞ, ANDAR, and TAAC contribute flight control systems to the project. This multi-layered localization approach strengthens Turkey's defense industry ecosystem maturity and technological independence. Defense Industry Agency President Görgün noted that over 4,500 companies are simultaneously executing more than 1,500 projects within the ecosystem, with an increasing number of programs transitioning to serial production phases, as exemplified by HÜRKUŞ.
Internationally, HÜRKUŞ competes in the basic training aircraft category alongside platforms such as the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II, Pilatus PC-21, and Embraer Tucano. HÜRKUŞ II is designed to international standards and developed through indigenous technology and engineering expertise. Continued deliveries as scheduled demonstrate increased pilot training capacity for the Turkish Air Force while showcasing serial production capabilities of TUSAŞ and affiliated organizations. The Defense Industry Agency plans to continue HÜRKUŞ deliveries on a phased basis in accordance with program timelines.
