BREAKING NEWS
HAVELSAN's Engineer Kids on the Road Project, aimed at fostering engineering and technology interest among children, reached students in village schools across Trabzon. Implemented in cooperation with the Özdemir Bayraktar Science Center under Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality, the project conducted applied science and technology workshops in village schools across Yomra, Akçaabat, and Of districts. The activities took place between October 19-21 and benefited approximately 500 students.
HAVELSAN, a key player in the Turkish defense industry ecosystem specializing in software and systems integration, prioritizes social responsibility projects focused on developing human resources in the technology sector. The company believes that early-stage science and engineering education contributes significantly to Turkey's technological advancement. The Engineer Kids on the Road Project was launched for the first time ahead of TEKNOFEST SOUTHEAST, and following initial activities in Şanlıurfa, the Trabzon phase aimed to reach a broader student population with similar initiatives.
The workshop activities included various applications designed to develop children's engineering and design skills. At events held in Yomra Çamlıyurt Primary School and Maden Secondary School, the BARKAN Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) game workshop, robotic arm activities, sundial construction, and paper airplane competitions were organized. These practical applications helped students understand problem-solving, creative thinking, and production processes. Schools in Akçaabat and Of also participated in similar workshop programs.
The project's most notable component was the presentation of the BAHA Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), developed by HAVELSAN engineers. Students in village schools had the opportunity to examine the BAHA UAV up close, inspect its components, and receive direct information from engineers. The students followed the vehicle's live demonstration with considerable interest. This domestically developed platform demonstrated Turkey's indigenous defense industry capabilities to the children in concrete terms. At the conclusion of the events, students received participation certificates and Engineer Kids magazines.
The project aimed to reach students who lacked access to science festivals, BilimFest, and TEKNOFEST events. This ensured that village school children had equal access to science and technology experiences as their urban counterparts. HAVELSAN also participates in BilimFest, scheduled for October 22-24, 2026, at the Trabzon Özdemir Bayraktar Science Center. Through the Engineer Kids on the Road Project, the initiative sought to bring science and technology enthusiasm to Trabzon's villages before the festival, connect students with scientific activities, and raise awareness about BilimFest participation opportunities.
