BREAKING NEWS
A critical milestone has been reached in the National Combat Aircraft KAAN program, one of Türkiye’s most strategic defense industry projects. A procurement agreement for KAAN was signed between the Presidency of Defense Industries and Turkish Aerospace. The agreement represents an important step in placing the production, procurement and delivery processes of Türkiye’s 5th-generation fighter aircraft program on a more concrete institutional basis.
KAAN is being developed to meet the future air superiority requirements of the Turkish Air Force. Led by Turkish Aerospace as the prime contractor, the project stands out as one of Türkiye’s largest technology initiatives in aviation. The aircraft is expected to feature low observability, advanced avionics architecture, high situational awareness, network-centric warfare capability and integration with national munitions. The procurement agreement signed between the Presidency of Defense Industries and Turkish Aerospace marks the beginning of a new phase in the program’s institutional and operational progress.
The KAAN program is not merely a fighter aircraft production effort; it is also a broad industrial project that deepens Türkiye’s aviation ecosystem. Within the scope of the program, many critical components such as radar, mission computers, avionics systems, communication infrastructure, electronic warfare solutions, composite structures, landing gear, engine integration and weapon systems are being developed with the contribution of domestic defense industry companies. In this respect, KAAN directly supports Türkiye’s high-technology production capability and localization goals in the defense industry.
The signed procurement agreement is considered an important threshold on KAAN’s path toward serial production and inventory entry. Developed in line with the current and future operational needs of the Turkish Air Force, the aircraft is expected to complement Türkiye’s existing F-16 fleet and gradually provide more advanced capabilities. KAAN’s ability to operate with national munitions, be supported by domestic subsystems and play an effective role in network-centric operations with friendly assets will strengthen the deterrence of the Turkish Armed Forces.
KAAN is regarded as one of the most visible symbols of Türkiye’s fully independent defense industry vision. The agreement between the Presidency of Defense Industries and Turkish Aerospace demonstrates not only technical progress in the national fighter aircraft program, but also stronger coordination between the state, prime contractor and defense industry ecosystem. In the coming period, the program is expected to create new milestones in Turkish aviation history through testing, production, procurement and delivery phases.
The procurement agreement signed for KAAN is a strategic step toward Türkiye’s goal of developing and fielding its own combat aircraft. This development will advance the Turkish defense industry’s capabilities in air platforms and provide long-term contributions to engineering, production and technology development. With KAAN’s entry into service, Türkiye aims to strengthen its position among countries capable of supporting their air power with national resources.
