CANiK, operating under Samsun Yurt Savunma, has achieved a historic milestone in Türkiye’s defense industry. The company delivered 750 units of its M2 QCB heavy machine gun, the largest-caliber weapon of its kind produced in Türkiye, to the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and domestic security forces. This delivery represents the largest single shipment of machine guns in the history of the Republic of Türkiye.
The development of the M2 QCB began in 2018 under an agreement with the Presidency of Defense Industries. During this period, CANiK invested over 600 million Turkish lira in research, development, and industrialization, elevating the weapon to meet and surpass international standards. The gun has successfully passed global-level tests, setting a world record with a barrel life of 20,000 rounds. It also became the only weapon worldwide to pass both icing and contamination tests.
CANiK General Manager C. Utku Aral highlighted that the M2 QCB flawlessly completed 23 different NATO and U.S. qualification tests, using over 200,000 rounds of ammunition. He emphasized that this success is the result of the dedication and expertise of a strong and experienced team.
The newly delivered anti-aircraft guns will enter the inventories of the Turkish Armed Forces, Gendarmerie General Command, General Directorate of Security, and Coast Guard Command, significantly enhancing Türkiye’s defense and security capabilities. In addition to meeting domestic needs, CANiK continues to expand globally, currently exporting to 69 countries, thereby contributing to Türkiye’s economy and strengthening its international defense presence.
This landmark delivery underlines the rapid progress of Türkiye’s defense industry and demonstrates the nation’s growing capability in indigenous arms production.
