Türkiye’s pride in the defense industry, the Bayraktar AKINCI Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV), has once again demonstrated its advanced capabilities. In the latest trials, AKINCI successfully conducted firing tests with Roketsan-developed IIR (Imaging Infrared) guided MAM-T and TV-guided MAM-L munitions. During the test, the system proved its ability to strike targets with precision even from above the clouds, showcasing a new milestone for Türkiye’s smart munition technologies.
Developed by Baykar, the AKINCI has become a central asset in the Turkish Armed Forces, known for its ability to operate effectively at high altitudes and under challenging weather conditions. Previously, AKINCI had already attracted attention by successfully completing a supersonic missile firing test with Roketsan’s İHA-122 missile. Now, with the integration of advanced guided munitions, the UCAV has further expanded its operational flexibility and mission profile.
Haluk Bayraktar, CEO of Baykar, emphasized that these successful tests are not only a technical achievement but also a strategic step for Türkiye’s defense industry. The development and production of both the UCAV and the munitions with fully indigenous resources underline Türkiye’s determination to achieve defense independence. In this sense, AKINCI is positioning itself as more than just a drone — it is set to play a crucial role in future combat scenarios.
The successful test firings also strengthen Türkiye’s international standing in the defense market. The MAM series munitions, already leading in exports, now boast a cloud-top strike capability, further enhancing their competitiveness on the global stage.
