Türkiye’s defense industry has marked another milestone with the successful integration of the Bayraktar AKINCI Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (UCAV) and ASELSAN’s ASELFLIR-500 Electro-Optical Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Targeting System. Conducted at the AKINCI Flight Training and Test Center in Çorlu, Tekirdağ, the test saw AKINCI score a direct hit on a moving target at sea, proving the system’s precision and effectiveness. The successful firing trial also confirmed the seamless integration of the ASELFLIR-500 into the AKINCI platform.
This achievement demonstrates AKINCI’s ability to operate not only against land targets but also as a formidable asset against naval threats. The test highlights the strength of Türkiye’s indigenous defense research and development programs and underscores the country’s growing competitiveness in the global defense market. The success of AKINCI with the ASELFLIR-500 reflects Türkiye’s engineering capabilities and its capacity to deliver high-performance, homegrown defense technologies.
Since beginning UAV development in 2003, Baykar has grown into a global defense and aerospace player, with its Bayraktar TB2 and Bayraktar AKINCI models exported to 34 countries. These agreements have solidified Türkiye’s place as a leading exporter of advanced unmanned systems. The latest successful test further enhances AKINCI’s reputation as a versatile and reliable platform capable of executing complex missions in diverse operational environments.
Beyond strengthening Türkiye’s defense capabilities, this milestone also bolsters its standing in the international defense industry. The successful strike with the ASELFLIR-500 is a testament to the progress of Turkish engineering and a strong indication of the country’s future potential in high-tech military systems.
