BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye's defense industry continues to make strides in the field of unmanned systems, with the BARKAN unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) emerging as a prime example of innovation and technological progress. Developed under the coordination of the Ministry of National Defense and the Presidency of Defense Industries, BARKAN has proven its capabilities by covering more than 1000 kilometers in snowy, muddy, and challenging terrains. This milestone marks a significant achievement, demonstrating Türkiye's growing expertise in robotic and autonomous land platforms.
As a medium-class level-1 UGV, BARKAN plays a key role in HAVELSAN’s “digital unit” concept. Thanks to its modular structure, the vehicle can be adapted for a wide range of missions, including combat operations, logistics support, casualty evacuation, explosive ordnance disposal, reconnaissance, and surveillance. Its autonomous features enhance operational effectiveness, while its swarm infrastructure allows BARKAN to coordinate missions alongside other unmanned systems — a capability that provides unique tactical advantages on the battlefield.
Veysel Ataoğlu, HAVELSAN’s Director of Product Development, stated that BARKAN earned users’ confidence during demanding validation tests. He emphasized that HAVELSAN aims to expand its innovations in robotics and autonomous systems, integrating advanced software capabilities into multiple platforms in the near future.
The success of BARKAN not only strengthens the operational capacity of the Turkish Armed Forces but also boosts Turkey’s competitive standing in the global defense industry. With proven reliability and cutting-edge design, BARKAN is regarded as a milestone achievement, paving the way for future advancements in unmanned and autonomous defense technologies.
