BREAKING NEWS
ASELSAN has taken a major step forward in the defense industry by adapting its ATOM smart munition, originally developed against aerial threats, into a highly effective weapon system for land targets. This innovation not only provides the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) with a significant deterrent capability but also creates opportunities to strengthen the defense capacities of allied nations.
The ATOM munition is distinguished by its ability to detonate at a pre-programmed time after being fired. Upon detonation, it releases more than 500 lethal fragments, inflicting devastating damage on enemy forces. This feature makes it particularly valuable in urban operations, where it provides a critical advantage to security forces against sniper threats and entrenched enemy positions.
Integrated with ASELSAN’s SARP remote-controlled weapon systems, ATOM ensures that fortifications such as trenches, walls, and caves are no longer safe havens for adversaries. The ability to deploy the system on mobile platforms further expands its operational flexibility. According to Güven Solak, Program Manager of Smart Ammunition and Active Protection Systems, the ATOM system has completed test firings—captured exclusively by TRT News—and is now ready for mass production.
The successful integration of ATOM with SARP not only strengthens fixed and mobile combat operations but also significantly enhances export potential. By leveraging domestic and national production capabilities, Turkey continues to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers while delivering cutting-edge defense technologies to the battlefield. The ATOM system stands as a clear symbol of ASELSAN’s role in advancing Turkey’s defense industry and providing its armed forces with a decisive battlefield advantage.
