ASELSAN is set to accelerate deliveries of its multi-layered integrated air defense system, STEEL DOME, which plays a vital role in Türkiye’s national air defense architecture. One of the key components of the system, the EJDERHA High-Power Electromagnetic Countermeasure System, will be deployed for operational use this year. Designed to effectively neutralize modern threats such as swarm attacks and FPV drones, EJDERHA represents a new-generation defensive capability.
Speaking at the “SAHA Sohbet” program organized by SAHA Istanbul, ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akyol shared insights into the company’s achievements and future roadmap. He highlighted that ASELSAN, which began its journey in 1975 in a small apartment in Ankara with just four engineers, now marks its 50th anniversary as a global defense company with over 13,000 employees, active operations in 25 countries, and production facilities spread across Türkiye.
Akyol emphasized that ASELSAN has become the first Turkish company to reach a market valuation of 1 trillion Turkish liras on Borsa Istanbul. He noted that the company is currently the most valuable defense firm in Türkiye, ranks eighth in Europe, and twentieth worldwide, reflecting the technological and financial maturity reached over five decades.
The STEEL DOME system is built upon ASELSAN’s extensive expertise in radar, communications, navigation, command and control, and electronic warfare technologies. At its core lies an artificial intelligence-based software architecture supported by a military 5G network. Akyol stated that ASELSAN’s Ankara facility is the largest integrated air defense complex in Europe, bringing together multi-band radars, IRST sensors, and electronic warfare elements within a single structure.
EJDERHA, one of STEEL DOME’s critical elements, leverages ASELSAN’s long-standing know-how in solid-state and vacuum electronics. The system has reached low-rate initial production and is scheduled to enter service this year, offering an effective response to rapidly evolving aerial threats.
Beyond air defense, ASELSAN continues to play a key role in projects ranging from UAV and fifth-generation fighter aircraft systems to electronic warfare and healthcare technologies. The company’s export contracts have increased by 171 percent in the recent period, underlining the growing global demand for Turkish defense technologies.
