BREAKING NEWS
ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akyol made significant announcements regarding defense industry developments at the TEKNOFEST Southeast event. Akyol shared details about guided munitions and smart munitions projects, stating that new variants of the TOLUN family are under development and have entered serial production. He noted the existence of concrete-piercing, fragmentation, laser-guided, and infrared (IIR) sensor-equipped variants, emphasizing that these munitions are manufactured in high quantities using robotic systems.
ASELSAN has adopted a multi-faceted approach in guided munitions systems. The TOLUN munition family comprises various variants designed to meet diverse operational requirements. The bunker-busting variant capable of penetrating concrete structures is in active use, while fragmentation variants provide effectiveness against area targets. Laser-guided variants offer precision targeting capabilities, and IIR-equipped versions enable operations in night and adverse weather conditions. Production capacity has reached thousands of munitions per month, with robotic production lines providing significant advantages in standardization and quality control.
ASELSAN's munitions development work plays a critical role in the Turkish defense industry ecosystem. The development of indigenous guided munitions systems reduces Turkey's external dependencies and enhances strategic autonomy. The TOLUN family variants are designed for use across different operational scenarios by land forces, air forces, and naval forces. High-volume production capacity meets Turkish Armed Forces inventory requirements and strengthens deterrence capabilities. Additionally, increased domestic munitions production raises localization rates within the defense industry supply chain.
ASELSAN demonstrates strategic orientation toward developing long-range systems. Akyol's statements about "seeing further and striking further" reflect the company's technological vision. New TOLUN family variants with extended range and propulsion systems are under development, with ground-launched and air-launched variants planned. Large-scale radars have entered inventory, with longer-range radar systems scheduled for announcement in coming months. These developments strengthen Turkey's long-range precision strike capabilities and play an important role in regional security balance.
ASELSAN's production infrastructure is expanding across Anatolia and contributing to regional economies. Beyond Ankara-based operations, the company has established facilities in Malatya, Gaziantep, and Şanlıurfa. The first phase of the Oğulbey facility became operational in July 2026, with additional facilities coming online in three-month intervals. More than 60 companies from Southeast Anatolia supply products and services to ASELSAN, strengthening the local supply ecosystem. These investments create regional employment and diversify Turkish defense industry capacity.
