BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye has taken another significant step in its defense industry with a new strategic cooperation between ASELSAN and BMC Automotive. Under the agreement, Leopard 2A4 main battle tanks in the Turkish Armed Forces inventory will undergo comprehensive modernization as part of the TİYK-Leopard 2A4 Project, coordinated by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB). The project aims to upgrade these tanks with domestically developed systems, ensuring they meet the demands of modern warfare.
Signed at the end of 2022, the main contract designates ASELSAN as the principal subcontractor responsible for tank mission systems. Within this framework, Leopard 2A4 tanks will be equipped with advanced technologies previously developed for the Altay Main Battle Tank. These include the Fire Control System, Remote-Controlled Weapon Systems, Command, Control, Communication and Information Systems, Laser Warning System, Driver Vision System, Active Protection System, and Close-Range Surveillance Systems.
The agreement also covers a comprehensive Integrated Logistics Support package. With on-site maintenance and repair services, the operational readiness of critical systems will remain consistently high. This ensures that the Leopard 2A4 tanks will maintain long-term combat effectiveness and remain mission-ready under demanding operational conditions.
This cooperation between ASELSAN and BMC highlights Türkiye’s determination to strengthen its self-sufficiency in the defense sector. The modernization program not only extends the operational life of the Leopard 2A4 fleet but also reinforces Türkiye’s growing ability to integrate national technologies into advanced armored platforms, thereby solidifying its position in the global defense market.
