BREAKING NEWS
ASELSAN continues to advance its strategic investments to meet rising order volumes and strengthen its production infrastructure. The company announced the commissioning of a new facility with a $40 million investment, encompassing 17,360 square meters of enclosed space dedicated to "Smart Ammunition and Subsystems Production and Test Centers." The new facilities substantially enhance robotics and automation infrastructure for air and naval defense systems manufacturing, increasing delivery capacity, speed, and quality assurance capabilities.
ASELSAN holds a leading position in Turkey's defense sector, specializing in electronic systems, radar, communications, and weapons control systems. Founded in 1975 as a subsidiary of Middle East Technical University, the company evolved into an independent organization and now operates as a high-technology developer and manufacturer in air defense systems, naval defense systems, land systems, and electronic warfare. This latest investment reflects the company's strategy to expand its capacity in response to growing sectoral demand and national defense requirements.
Smart ammunition encompasses munitions with integrated target detection, tracking, and strike capabilities, featuring autonomous decision-making functions. Subsystems include submarines, torpedoes, and naval mines alongside related underwater platforms and weapons. The new facilities employ robotics and automation technologies for manufacturing these systems, reducing human error risk and improving production efficiency. Test centers provide the necessary infrastructure for quality control and performance validation of these advanced products.
Turkish defense industry has made significant strides in recent years toward increasing localization rates and developing national technologies. ASELSAN's investment plays a critical role in realizing the STEEL DOME project, a cornerstone of Turkey's air defense architecture. STEEL DOME is designed as a layered air defense system incorporating ASELSAN products including HISAR, SIPER, GÜRZ, and KORKUT systems. The new facilities expand production and test capacity, supporting fulfillment of the 780 million euro contract signed with the Defense Industry Agency.
Global defense industry faces intense competition in smart ammunition and subsystems sectors, with NATO countries investing billions in technology development. The U.S. HIMARS system and various European missile systems exemplify advanced smart ammunition technology. ASELSAN's new facility strengthens Turkey's competency in this domain, enhancing international market competitiveness. This investment simultaneously expands export potential and reinforces confidence in Turkish defense industry product quality and reliability on the global stage.
