BREAKING NEWS
The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) continues to strengthen its fleet of armored vehicles with new indigenous capabilities. ARMA 8x8, the latest member of the ARMA multi-wheeled vehicle family developed by Otokar, has officially entered service under ASELSAN’s YENER project. Specially adapted for route security operations, the platform is designed to detect improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and landmines in advance, ensuring safer passage for troops and sustaining the operational tempo in high-risk areas.
The YENER system incorporates radars and metal detectors mounted on the front and sides of the vehicle. These sensors scan routes for potential explosive threats and provide real-time alerts to the crew. With its advanced radar algorithms, the system maintains high accuracy even on varying soil types, significantly reducing false alarms in the field. Thanks to sensor fusion and mission software, ARMA 8x8 integrates seamlessly into command-and-control networks, enabling effective reconnaissance, surveillance, and route clearance operations.
Otokar’s involvement in the project once again demonstrates its strong design, testing, and integration capabilities in the defense industry. ARMA 8x8 stands out with its modular architecture, high protection levels, and superior mobility, making it suitable for long-duration missions in challenging terrains. Since its introduction in 2006, the ARMA family has been continuously upgraded and is now in service across five countries on three continents, proving its reliability. Notably, the export of 400 ARMA 8x8 vehicles to the United Arab Emirates highlights its global competitiveness.
The advanced ARMA II 8x8 variant addresses demands for greater protection and larger interior space. By integrating a domestically produced Ecotorq engine with 720 horsepower, Otokar has delivered Türkiye’s first indigenous 8x8 armored vehicle, further reinforcing national self-sufficiency in both production and sustainment. With ARMA 8x8 entering service under the YENER project, the TSK significantly enhances its ability to counter explosive threats, while Türkiye strengthens its role as a global defense technology provider.
