BREAKING NEWS
The Altay main battle tank, one of Türkiye’s most significant defense industry projects, has officially entered service with the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), symbolizing a major milestone in national tank production after 80 years. Following extensive trials and development, the Altay has been declared ready for serial production, designed to meet the operational demands of modern battlefields while showcasing Türkiye’s technological progress in defense.
Defense industry researcher Anıl Şahin describes the Altay as one of the most modern tanks in the world. Powered by a 1500-horsepower South Korean engine, the tank delivers high mobility and strong battlefield performance. Beyond its engine, however, the true strength of the Altay lies in its advanced indigenous systems. Developed by ASELSAN, the Volkan fire control system and the AKKOR Active Protection System provide next-generation capabilities, allowing the tank to detect and neutralize incoming enemy projectiles in mid-air, thereby significantly boosting survivability.
Researcher Yusuf Akbaba highlights that the Altay has the potential for mass production of up to 250 units, positioning Türkiye as a stronger player in the global defense sector. With its enhanced firepower, advanced armor, and cutting-edge electronic systems, the Altay is not only a powerful addition to the Turkish Armed Forces but also a potential export product that could increase Türkiye’s influence in the international defense market.
The induction of the Altay tank into TSK’s inventory represents more than just an upgrade in armored capabilities. It also demonstrates the country’s ability to combine indigenous innovation with strategic independence, ensuring both deterrence and operational effectiveness in domestic security missions and overseas operations. This achievement underscores Türkiye’s growing strength in the global defense industry while solidifying its pursuit of defense autonomy.
