BREAKING NEWS
TUSAŞ announced that the first TOLUN firing from AKSUNGUR, the world's longest-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle in its class, successfully struck the target with precision. In a statement by ASELSAN, it was noted that the Bunker-Buster TOLUN P achieved a direct hit during the first test firing from AKSUNGUR, and this integration expanded the platform portfolio supported by TOLUN munition systems.
TUSAŞ has served as Turkey's leading aerospace and space technology institution since its establishment in 1994. The company holds a leading position in the design, development, and production of strategic unmanned aerial platforms. The AKSUNGUR program represents TUSAŞ's platform developed for missions requiring extended endurance and high payload capacity, designed for both civilian and military applications. Through such strategic projects, the company strengthens the technological capacity of Turkey's defense industry ecosystem.
AKSUNGUR is designed as a platform capable of continuous operations, equipped with various payloads and munitions for day and night intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and strike missions. The system provides operational effectiveness in intelligence gathering and surveillance operations across wide geographic areas due to its extended flight duration. TOLUN P is a guided precision munition that can be launched through multiple ejection racks and is effective against both hard and soft ground targets. This integration significantly enhances AKSUNGUR's strike capabilities, improving the platform's operational versatility.
Turkish defense industry has taken significant steps in recent years in the field of munition integration on UAV platforms. BAYKAR's Bayraktar TB2 and TB3 platforms, and TUSAŞ's ANKA and AKSUNGUR systems have been successfully integrated with various indigenous munitions. These developments increase Turkey's localization rate in the UAV ecosystem while creating synergy between platform and munition manufacturers. The integration of TOLUN munition into AKSUNGUR exemplifies cooperation between ASELSAN and TUSAŞ, representing a strategic development for Turkish defense industry in terms of localization and system integration.
On the international level, munition integration on UAV platforms is widely practiced through examples such as the U.S. MQ-9B Reaper system and Israeli Heron and Hermes platforms. The successful integration of AKSUNGUR with TOLUN P demonstrates that Turkish defense industry products are competitive with international standards. This achievement shows that Turkey is advancing in developing independent capacity in UAV and munition technologies, while increasing future export potential.
