Türkiye’s first indigenous armed unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), Bayraktar TB2, continues its evolution with the introduction of the TB2T, a next-generation version featuring enhanced altitude performance, higher speed, and AI-assisted operational autonomy. Developed by Baykar, the TB2T integrates a turbo engine and a cutting-edge artificial intelligence mission management system, allowing the aircraft to perform more complex missions with improved efficiency and reduced operator workload.
During its third performance test flight, the Bayraktar TB2T reached 25,500 feet (approximately 7,800 meters), successfully demonstrating its new powerplant and avionics capabilities. The turbo engine provides increased climb rate and endurance, enabling longer surveillance missions and greater operational flexibility. Combined with AI-assisted control, TB2T can autonomously manage sensor data, track targets, and execute mission adjustments in real time — key features for modern battlefield environments.
The Bayraktar TB2 platform, first inducted into service in 2014, has achieved over 1 million flight hours as of December 2024 and boasts a 93% domestic production rate. It serves not only the Turkish Armed Forces but also the National Intelligence Organization (MİT), Gendarmerie, Police, Coast Guard, and even the General Directorate of Forestry for wildfire monitoring missions.
With the TB2T variant, Baykar aims to further strengthen Türkiye’s position in the global UAV market. The integration of artificial intelligence enables faster decision-making, optimized flight paths, and enhanced mission success rates. Experts suggest that TB2T’s superior endurance and autonomy will make it a strong candidate for international demand, continuing the export success story of the Bayraktar family.
