The Turkish Armed Forces rely on fast and reliable information flow to carry out critical command-and-control functions on the tactical battlefield. Fire support, intelligence, electronic warfare, maneuver coordination, and logistics operations all require simultaneous and seamless communication. ASELSAN’s newly developed Mobile Satellite Terminal fulfills exactly this operational need, offering secure, high-speed communication even while military vehicles are on the move.

Satellite communication systems are indispensable for military units operating in environments where line-of-sight communication is impossible or where challenging terrain limits the performance of conventional systems. Minimally affected by geographical obstacles, these systems provide a significant advantage in regions with intense operational activity. Through ASELSAN’s advanced satellite communication solutions, the Turkish Armed Forces can maintain uninterrupted voice, video, and data communication between command centers and units operating in the field under any terrain or weather conditions.

The Mobile Satellite Terminal was first used during the General Staff’s Communication, Electronics and Information Systems Exercise. Developed under the Presidency of Defence Industries as part of the X-Band Satellite Communication System (TUMSİS) — whose acceptance tests were completed in 2021 — the terminal successfully enabled live video communication from ASELSAN’s Macunköy facilities while the vehicle was in motion. Integrated onto Otokar’s Cobra II 4x4 Tactical Armored Vehicle, the system officially introduced the first land platform in the TSK inventory capable of mobile satellite communication.

The vehicle-mounted antenna automatically aligns with the selected satellite, enabling IP-based open and/or encrypted voice communication, data transfer, video conferencing and even fax while on the move. This capability significantly strengthens command-and-control structures in operational zones, ensuring real-time communication between commanders and frontline units without interruption.
