Exclusive Interview with Sarsılmaz Deputy General Manager Öner Özyılmaz
Levent Kılıçalan The SAHA EXPO 2022 Defense, Aviation, and Space Industry Exhibition opened its doors to visitors. Sarsılmaz Deputy General Manager Öner Özyılmaz presented SARBOT. One of the most striking products at the exhibiton was SARBOT, Sarsılmaz’s new high-tech armed robot. At the SAHA EXPO Defense and Aviation Exhibition held in Istanbul, Sarsılmaz introduced its new products developed within the framework of its 2023 vision.
A product of Turkish engineers, the 20 mm nose gun to be used in the Atak helicopter—developed under the aircraft cannon project and jointly produced by Sarsılmaz and TUSAŞ’s joint company TR Mekatronik—is a rotary-barreled, turret-mounted gun system capable of firing 750 rounds of 20 mm caliber ammunition per minute. It will significantly enhance the firepower of the Turkish Armed Forces.
At the exhibition, Sarsılmaz also showcased 12.7 mm machine guns designed for Hürkuş aircraft, bringing them together with industry professionals. With its new technological weapon SARBOT, Sarsılmaz is positioning itself among the world’s leading brands. The armed robot SARBOT, introduced at the exhibition, was highly appreciated by visitors.
“The robotic weapon system will be built in different calibers and scaled accordingly, and will be delivered to our army in the coming years. Sarsılmaz, with a history of more than 150 years, began its story with hunting and sporting shotguns, later evolved into pistols, then infantry rifles. Now, with our joint ventures, we are contributing to the cannon of our Atak helicopter and focusing on robotic weapon systems as part of our 2023 vision. These robotic weapon systems will be designed according to different calibers and recoil forces, and therefore will vary in size depending on the weight they carry. These weapons are planned to enter the inventory of our army and armed forces under all conditions, especially in Idlib-type conditions, general cave operations, and building operations in urban environments. Today, Sarsılmaz exports to more than 82 countries and develops collaborations with friendly and allied nations. In line with our country’s strategy, we can export to countries we deem appropriate.”
