BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye’s defense industry continues to expand its capabilities with another domestic innovation. Asisguard has officially introduced a new electro-optical gimbal system, designed as the “eye” of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Weighing just 3.5 kilograms, the gimbal integrates a 640x512 cooled thermal camera, a 1920x1080 HD daylight camera with 30x optical zoom, and a 5 km laser rangefinder, providing exceptional detection, tracking, and identification capabilities in all weather and lighting conditions. With its two-axis stabilization system, the platform ensures high image clarity even during flight maneuvers or vibration-heavy operations.
According to Asisguard General Manager Barış Düzgün, the system was primarily developed to meet the needs of low-altitude VTOL UAVs, enabling detection of human targets from 8 kilometers and vehicles from 20 kilometers. The company leveraged its extensive experience from land-based surveillance systems and armored vehicle camera integrations to enhance the gimbal’s performance. The result is a compact, AI-assisted imaging unit capable of real-time situational awareness, long-range observation, and precision targeting.
The gimbal’s export potential is considered strong, with Asisguard emphasizing that its product offers superior performance at a significantly lower cost compared to international competitors. The company is also developing lighter variants (800 g – 1.5 kg) suitable for smaller drones and even missile seeker applications, extending its use to weaponized and reconnaissance UAVs alike.
With this system now entering active inventory, Türkiye takes a significant step toward full independence in electro-optical technology. The indigenous gimbal enhances reconnaissance, surveillance, and targeting capabilities across UAV platforms, reinforcing both the operational efficiency and export competitiveness of the Turkish defense industry.
