Koluman Otomotiv Endüstri, one of the rising names in Türkiye’s defense industry, showcased its newly developed DERMAN 8X8 armored logistics support vehicle at DSEI 2023 in London, one of the world’s most prestigious defense exhibitions. Recently added to the Turkish Armed Forces’ inventory, the vehicle represents both a domestic innovation and a significant step toward global market expansion.
Zafer Özcan, Deputy General Manager of Military Projects at Koluman Otomotiv Endüstri, emphasized that the debut of DERMAN at DSEI marked an important milestone for the company. He stated that under an agreement with the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), a 70-vehicle project was initiated, with the first 7 units already delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces. Özcan underlined that DERMAN was developed specifically for the Turkish military—one of NATO’s strongest armies—while also aiming at international markets with strong export potential.
Since 2017, Koluman has positioned itself in the logistics support vehicle segment, and DERMAN is the result of this expertise. The vehicle stands out with its 8x8 wheel configuration, container transport capability, and armored protection. In addition, the company has also advanced in the field with its AKTAN armored fuel tanker project, which complements its logistics solutions portfolio.
Özcan highlighted that DERMAN’s integrated logistics support features and widespread spare parts compatibility will give it an edge in international markets. He particularly pointed to Eastern Europe as a target region, noting that rising security concerns there are driving interest in such platforms. Following the London exhibition, Koluman plans to present DERMAN in Germany as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) and conduct field tests.
Looking ahead, Özcan announced that by the first quarter of 2024, the company aims to deliver all 70 vehicles under the DROPS Project and produce the first prototypes of the armored AKTAN project. With these developments, DERMAN is set to become not only a milestone achievement for Türkiye’s defense industry but also a competitive player on the global defense stage.
