BREAKING NEWS
The M60T main battle tanks, a cornerstone of the Turkish Armed Forces’ armored units, are undergoing a significant modernization with the integration of advanced domestic technology. Within the scope of the “M60T Tank Additional Capability Acquisition Project” (TİYK-M60T), ASELSAN’s Volkan-M Fire Control System is being installed, transforming the tanks into more effective and capable platforms. With this upgrade, the tanks gain superior accuracy and performance in both day and night combat conditions, strengthening their battlefield effectiveness.
The agreement signed between ASELSAN and the Presidency of Defence Industries is a major step in Türkiye’s strategy to reduce foreign dependency and boost its indigenous production capabilities. The Volkan-M system stands out with its simplified architecture, advanced day/night vision capabilities, and a high first-round hit probability. These features significantly enhance the Turkish Armed Forces’ operational capabilities and provide a stronger deterrence on the battlefield.
The project goes beyond fire control system upgrades. The tanks will also be equipped with the Tank Command Control Communication Information System, additional armor protection, and modernized crew seating. These enhancements increase both combat efficiency and crew safety. Furthermore, training and maintenance are also being modernized through the integration of Volkan-M into live turret training simulators and maintenance training tanks, ensuring well-prepared personnel and efficient system upkeep.
The integration of the Volkan-M system not only acts as a force multiplier for the Turkish Armed Forces but also symbolizes Türkiye’s progress toward self-sufficiency in defense technology. This advancement highlights the country’s ability to produce indigenous solutions while strengthening the global competitiveness of its defense industry. Ultimately, the project reinforces Türkiye’s growing position in the international defense arena.
