BREAKING NEWS
Sudan's Armed Forces successfully engaged and destroyed an adversary unmanned aerial vehicle on May 23 using the Bayraktar AKINCI platform equipped with the EREN High-Speed Multi-Purpose Loitering Munition, developed by ROKETSAN. The operation confirmed the air-to-air engagement capability in an operational environment.
According to Clash Report, the targeted aircraft originated from Ethiopia. The UAE-backed RSF militant group continues to operate from Ethiopian territory as a strategic hub. Sudan's Armed Forces demonstrated the AKINCI platform's effectiveness against aerial threats through this successful engagement.
The EREN system is designed for deployment from rotary-wing aircraft, helicopters, ground vehicles, fixed installations, and maritime platforms. The munition features a range exceeding 100 kilometers and an endurance of 60 minutes, with a length of 2.6 meters and a weight of 60 kilograms. Guidance relies on a combination of inertial navigation, imaging infrared seeker, and global navigation satellite system. The warhead employs a high-explosive blast fragmentation design, enabling employment against low-speed aerial targets, lightly armored or unarmored ground objectives, and personnel.
