STM demonstrated its swarm intelligence technology and advanced autonomous systems at the Ateş Serbest-2026 Exercise, a major tactical demonstration under the Defense Industry Agency's leadership. The exercise, held at the General Nahit Şenoğul Firing and Exercise Range in Ankara Polatlı, showcased the operational effectiveness of the company's domestically developed swarm system.
During the exercise scenario, following the detection of enemy personnel, a swarm of 20 KARGU attack UAVs launched autonomously under the control of a single operator and proceeded to the target area. Leveraging a distributed control architecture, each UAV in the system communicated in real-time with its counterparts, coordinating target detection, classification, and prioritization. The swarm, divided into two groups of 10 UAVs each at the target location, executed simultaneous strikes, precisely neutralizing designated targets with anti-personnel warheads.
STM's munition-delivery platform BOYGA also demonstrated successful performance during the exercise. In service with the Turkish Armed Forces since 2022, the system delivered its 81 mm UAV munitions to the designated target with precision accuracy. Additionally, the company's FPV solution KarguFPV kamikaze UAVs participated in the operation. The exercise was observed by Defense Minister Yaşar Güler, Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Commander of Land Forces General Metin Tokel, and Commander of Air Forces General Rafet Dalkıran.
STM's swarm intelligence architecture enables each UAV to make autonomous tactical decisions without dependence on a centralized control unit. This distributed structure allows the swarm to continue its mission even if individual elements are disabled, thereby enhancing mission success. UAVs within the swarm engage targets appropriate to their munition types; for example, systems capable of distinguishing between personnel and vehicle targets can execute autonomous engagement based on target classification. The developed systems allow real-time addition and removal of UAVs, mission updates, and swarm subdivision to execute different sub-tasks.
STM General Manager Özgür Güleryüz noted that the company established a historic precedent during the EFES-2026 Exercise in May 2026 by executing autonomous swarm attacks with 20 KARGU UAVs, and the successful demonstration at Ateş Serbest-2026 confirmed the company's operational maturity in autonomous warfare systems. Güleryüz emphasized that the performance of domestically developed technologies in the field demonstrates Turkish engineering capability and that the company will continue advancing its vision of autonomous defense systems under the Defense Industry Agency's guidance.
