Spain has reinforced its humanitarian aid to Ukraine, which continues to face the devastating consequences of the ongoing war with Russia. Responding to a request from the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, Madrid delivered two refurbished armored ambulances through the European Civil Protection Mechanism. These vehicles are specifically designed to ensure the safe evacuation of patients and to provide urgent medical treatment even in the midst of active conflict zones.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares emphasized that this donation reflects Spain’s commitment to protecting and assisting the Ukrainian people. He also recalled that Spain had previously supplied Ukraine with a Role II Plus field hospital, which is capable of performing emergency surgeries and delivering intensive care services, thereby helping address the severe medical crises caused by the war.
Spain’s contributions to Ukraine extend beyond medical aid. The country has also shipped 200 tons of military equipment, including Raytheon Hawk air defense systems, Leopard battle tanks, and various ammunition. Furthermore, in 2023, Spain organized a four-week training course for Ukrainian soldiers on the operation of armored battle tanks, enhancing their combat readiness and resilience against Russian forces.
In conclusion, Spain’s dual-track approach of providing both humanitarian and military assistance not only supports Ukraine’s immediate needs but also strengthens its long-term defense capabilities. These actions highlight Spain’s determination to contribute to regional stability and collective European security in the face of ongoing threats.
