BREAKING NEWS
SOLOTÜRK, one of the few solo jet aerobatic teams in the world, is preparing to captivate the skies of Gaziantep with a high-intensity demonstration flight. Known globally for its precision, speed, and aerobatic mastery with the F-16 Fighting Falcon, the Turkish Air Force’s pride will meet thousands of aviation enthusiasts in Gaziantep as part of its 2017 air show season. The team, which kicked off the season on April 23–24 in Çanakkale, now brings its energy and expertise to southeastern Turkey.
The show is scheduled for May 14 at 15:30 over Alleben Pond, where SOLOTÜRK will perform a total of 21 advanced maneuvers. These impressive aerobatic movements will take place at altitudes ranging from just 30 meters to as high as 5 kilometers, offering spectators a diverse visual experience from low-level passes to high-altitude climbs. With each maneuver requiring exceptional precision and G-force endurance, the F-16’s capabilities will be pushed to their limits in a display of unmatched pilot skill.
Adding to the visual impact of the show, SOLOTÜRK will utilize the F-16’s operational flare systems and smoke generators. The deployment of flares during certain maneuvers will not only enhance the spectacle but also demonstrate elements of real-world combat tactics. Smoke trails will form dynamic patterns across the sky, creating a vivid and memorable aerial choreography.
The event is designed as a full-day celebration. Beginning at 12:00, the Gaziantep Governorship will host various water sports on the pond, while the Turkish Aeronautical Association will contribute with light aircraft demonstrations. This year’s show carries symbolic importance as well—honoring the region’s history since its inclusion into Turkish rule following the conquests of Süleyman Shah in 1084. SOLOTÜRK’s performance will thus serve as both a modern aviation display and a tribute to the city’s cultural and historical legacy.
