The Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) continues its efforts to increase the rate at which Turkey’s defense and security needs are met through domestic capabilities. As part of this mission, the Sanayileşme Portal—designed to bring together main contractors, subcontractors, and supporting industrial firms—has been fully renewed. The platform aims to streamline communication among defense-sector companies and create a stronger, more widespread supply chain.
SSM is not only working to meet the operational needs of defense institutions but also striving to build a sustainable and competitive defense industry ecosystem. With Turkey’s defense and security sector expanding rapidly in recent years, the institution places significant importance on maintaining this momentum through strategic projects and analytical studies. In this context, an evaluation of financial performance indicators for 122 companies from 2010 to 2013 was carried out last year, offering valuable insights into sectoral capabilities and development trends.
The Sanayileşme Portal, which was launched in 2012 and plays a vital role in forming Turkey’s defense industry capability inventory, now offers enhanced functionality following its renewal. The portal helps main and subcontractor firms stay informed about one another, while also providing a visibility platform for companies looking to enter the defense sector. This contributes significantly to expanding local involvement in defense projects.
Data submitted to the updated system reveals the growing potential of the sector. By the end of last year, 366 companies had entered a total of 1,349 products into the portal—an indication of Turkey’s rapidly diversifying domestic supply base. The portal’s comprehensive data structure also serves as a crucial foundation for building future sectoral strategies.
With its strengthened database and improved coordination capabilities, the Sanayileşme Portal is poised to play a key role in ensuring a more organized, competitive, and sustainable ecosystem for Turkey’s defense industry.
