BREAKING NEWS
As one of Türkiye’s leading defense companies, FNSS made headlines at the 16th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2023) by unveiling its KAPLAN HYBRID vehicle. Developed under the Hybrid Power Group Development Project launched in 2021, KAPLAN HYBRID represents a groundbreaking innovation for land platforms. Thanks to its hybrid engine technology, the vehicle combines high torque output with enhanced fuel efficiency, allowing for superior maneuverability on the battlefield and providing critical advantages in both combat and reconnaissance missions. The hybrid system also enables quieter operations, an invaluable feature in stealth and tactical scenarios.
A key aspect of the project is its domestic production focus. FNSS engineers designed the majority of the subsystems in-house, while continuing to develop local alternatives for previously imported components. Among these advancements, FNSS introduced an indigenously designed cross-drive transmission, which significantly strengthens the project’s domestic production capabilities.
FNSS General Manager Nail Kurt shared insights into the future of hybrid power solutions. He noted that while the current platform is developed for the 20-ton class, the company is also working on hybrid solutions for 30–40 ton vehicles and light tanks. Highlighting advancements in battery technologies, Kurt added that within a few years it could even be possible to integrate hybrid power groups into main battle tanks.
Beyond its technological innovations, KAPLAN HYBRID is also being considered as a potential option in the third phase of the Turkish Armed Forces’ Improved Armored Personnel Carrier Project. This reflects not only FNSS’s innovative approach but also the growing capacity of Türkiye’s defense industry to develop advanced, indigenous technologies for future warfare requirements.
