BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye has reached another critical milestone in its defense industry journey. Miilux OY, a company operating under the OYAK group, has successfully produced submarine steel — a material that only a few countries in the world can manufacture. This achievement ensures that the main structural frame of Türkiye’s national submarine will now be made entirely with locally produced steel. Miilux OY’s General Manager, Yavuz Yeldan, stated that the steel produced under the MİL-DEN project was delivered to the Shipyards General Directorate for use in test block construction.
Yeldan emphasized that this success eliminates Türkiye’s dependency on foreign suppliers for submarine steel, preventing potential future supply restrictions. The HY-100 grade steel they produced is known for its exceptional resistance to underwater pressure and harsh marine environments, making it ideal for advanced submarine construction. With this development, Türkiye has achieved full independence in one of the most strategic materials for its naval platforms.
The company’s contributions extend beyond naval projects. Miilux OY has also completed the production of armor steel for the ALTAY main battle tank, one of Türkiye’s flagship land defense programs. Yeldan confirmed that the thick armor plates have been tested and certified by internationally accredited organizations. The locally produced steel will be used in ALTAY’s mass production phase, marking another step toward full self-sufficiency in defense materials.
These developments signify Türkiye’s steady progress toward its “fully independent defense industry” vision. Domestic steel production not only provides cost and logistical advantages but also strengthens national security by safeguarding against potential embargoes or supply disruptions in the future.
