BREAKING NEWS
DASAL Aviation Technologies, a subsidiary of Altınay Defense Technologies, conducted four major operational demonstrations at the International Best Military Aerial Observation Team Competition (BIMDTC-2026), organized for the first time by Land Forces Command, showcasing advanced autonomous flight, swarm algorithms, and multi-platform integration capabilities. The company also provided platform support to eight competing teams using five-inch MİKON FPV drones. This participation reinforced DASAL's leadership position in micro and mini UAV technology within the Turkish defense industry ecosystem.
DASAL Aviation is a subsidiary of Altınay Defense Technologies specializing in micro-mini UAV system development. In recent years, the company has intensified research and development efforts toward indigenous drone technology advancement, achieving significant progress particularly in autonomous flight algorithms and swarm behavior modeling. The MİKON platform represents a concrete outcome of these efforts, designed for lightweight and rapidly deployable surveillance-reconnaissance systems.
The "Angel Mode" concept demonstrated during the event enabled a five-unit MİKON swarm to autonomously position itself in a 360-degree circular formation centered on the team commander. The aerial vehicles maintained continuous environmental surveillance through simultaneous 360-degree imaging, enabling continuous monitoring of the team commander's mobility in the operational area and early detection of potential asymmetric threats. Against threats identified by the three-unit swarm, central or distributed coordination capabilities executed tactical screening and target neutralization. These demonstrations validated autonomous transition capability from reconnaissance-surveillance phase to attack phase.
Turkish defense industry has achieved significant localization success in micro-mini UAV systems over the past decade. BAYKAR's Bayraktar TB2 and TB3 platforms, TUSAŞ's ANKA and KAAN projects, and ROKETSAN and ASELSAN's sensor-weapon integration efforts have positioned Turkey as a leading UAV technology nation in the region. DASAL's swarm technology and autonomous coordination capabilities address a new gap in the micro-mini class within this ecosystem, enhancing operational versatility.
In the international defense sector, swarm UAV technology and autonomous mission management represent priority research areas for advanced nations, including the United States' MQ-9B Reaper platforms and Israel's loitering munition systems. The "Beehive" system demonstrated by DASAL—an autonomous, covert rapid-response system for fixed bases and critical infrastructure—minimizes operational response time while enabling immediate response to multiple threats without risking personnel safety. In the carrier platform integration concept, the MİKON integrated into the mid-class FALCON C15 rotary-wing UAV performed autonomous flight missions after being released in-air. These capabilities represent a step forward for Turkish defense industry, extending operational range and enabling mechanical-avionics integration with different aircraft classes.
