The first C-390 Millennium transport aircraft for the Czech Republic, manufactured by Embraer, successfully completed its maiden flight at the company's facilities in Brazil. According to the company's official statements, this test demonstrated the platform's operational capabilities and completed a critical phase before delivery to the Czech Air Force. The aircraft is scheduled for delivery to the Czech Republic by mid-2026 following required test procedures.

The Czech Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Embraer in October 2024 to procure two C-390 Millennium multi-purpose transport aircraft. These NATO-standard platforms are being acquired to modernize and enhance the operational capabilities of the Czech Air Force. The contract includes comprehensive training and support packages to facilitate the integration of the C-390s into the Czech fleet alongside the aircraft themselves.

The C-390 Millennium is designed to perform a wide range of missions including tactical transport of personnel, vehicles and equipment, medical evacuation, firefighting, disaster management, and air-to-air refueling. The platform was developed to meet NATO's modern airlift requirements and features an operational structure aligned with allied nations' requirements. These multi-purpose capabilities will enhance the Czech Air Force's effectiveness in regional and international operations.

With this procurement, the Czech Republic is preparing to become the eighth operator of the C-390 Millennium, following the air forces of Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Uzbekistan, and South Korea. The aircraft has become a preferred system for NATO members and allies to strengthen their air transport capabilities. This broad operator base demonstrates Embraer's significant position in defense aviation and the international acceptance of its products.

A key element of the procurement program is the close industrial cooperation between Embraer and the Czech Republic. Czech aerospace company Aero Vodochody has been among the important partners of the C-390 program since 2011, manufacturing rear fuselage sections, cargo ramps, panels, wing leading edge fixed components, as well as parachute, crew, and emergency exit doors for the aircraft. A contract amendment signed between Aero Vodochody and Embraer in October 2024 increased the Czech company's share in C-390 transport aircraft production and strengthened this partnership. This cooperation contributes to the development of global aviation capabilities beyond the Czech Republic alone.
