ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, and TUSAŞ represent key opportunities for expanding defense and aerospace cooperation, as a Belgian delegation conducted high-level engagement in Ankara. The event was attended by Belgium's Defense Minister Theo Francken, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot, Walloon Region Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Pierre-Yves Jeholet, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş, Ministry of National Defence Deputy Minister Musa Heybet, and representatives of foreign missions.
Belgium's Ambassador to Ankara, Hendrik Van de Velde, recalled in his remarks that the Brussels government relocated its embassy residence from Istanbul to Ankara when the capital moved in the 1920s. Van de Velde emphasized that Belgium has closely observed Turkey's modernization and strengthening process, and stressed that defense industry partnerships must be built step by step.
Defense Minister Francken noted that he was returning to Turkey after 14 years, describing this interval as too long. The Belgian delegation characterized Turkey as an important neighbor and committed to more frequent visits in the future. Francken stated that the delegation signed approximately 40 contracts in Istanbul and an additional 6 in Ankara, with expectations that this number will increase.
Walloon Region Economy Minister Jeholet emphasized that in today's multipolar world, security is not guaranteed, competition is intensifying, and stability is becoming more challenging. Recalling that Turkey and Belgium have been NATO allies for over 70 years in defending shared security, Jeholet stressed that cooperation between reliable partners is vital for both today's crises and tomorrow's risks. He underscored that while diplomacy opens doors, it is companies that transform these opportunities into concrete results.
