BREAKING NEWS
ASELSAN, one of the leading companies in Türkiye’s defense industry, is taking a major step forward with its electro-optical reconnaissance, surveillance, and targeting systems. According to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, mass production of these systems will begin in February 2024, marking a milestone for Türkiye’s defense capabilities. Among them, the ASELFLIR-500 stands out as a high-performance system with strong export potential and broad operational applications.
Founded in 1975, ASELSAN has localized more than 700 products and systems, contributing significantly to Türkiye’s technological independence. Electro-optical systems have become one of its most strategic areas, particularly after Canada imposed an arms embargo on Türkiye following the Peace Spring Operation in 2019. This move accelerated ASELSAN’s work, leading to the development of globally recognized systems such as CATS and ASELFLIR-500. By 2021, CATS entered serial production, with 160 units produced and 60 exported, showcasing Türkiye’s growing footprint in the defense export market.
The ASELFLIR-500 has been designed for use on UAVs, helicopters, and aircraft. Equipped with wide field of view, high-precision stabilization, long-range laser designation, and high-resolution sensors, it provides superior target detection and significantly improves mission success rates.
With over 20 years of expertise in the field, ASELSAN aims to establish a family of FLIR systems capable of competing in international markets. These advancements not only strengthen Türkiye’s technological independence but also enhance its export capacity, positioning the country as a more influential player in the global defense sector.
