BREAKING NEWS
One of Türkiye’s leading defense companies, ASELSAN, is opening a new chapter in counter-drone warfare with its KORKUT 100/25 system, developed against mini and micro UAVs, which have become one of the most prominent threats on the modern battlefield. The system stands out with its artificial intelligence-supported detection and identification capabilities, and has been specifically designed to counter small, fast, and hard-to-detect aerial targets. At a time when low-altitude and low-cost drone swarm threats are becoming increasingly common, KORKUT 100/25 emerges as a more agile and more economical alternative to conventional air defense solutions.
One of the system’s most striking features is its ability to analyze targets entering its radar coverage within seconds and classify them according to type. Thanks to AI algorithms, this structure speeds up the operator’s decision-making process and provides a critical advantage against mini and micro UAV attack profiles that require extremely short reaction times. In this sense, the system is not merely a weapon station but is also seen as a smart close-range air defense solution adapted to the digital battlefield.
The striking power of KORKUT 100/25 is provided by ASELSAN’s ATOM 25 mm airburst smart ammunition. According to official and sectoral sources, this munition detonates in the air at a programmed point near the target and creates a cloud of fragments. In this way, it increases the probability of destroying small, agile, and highly maneuverable drones without requiring a direct hit. This makes the system especially effective against targets that are difficult to neutralize with conventional ammunition.
The latest visuals shared by ASELSAN and the recent news flow show that the intended operational uses of the system are also becoming clearer. KORKUT 100/25 is expected to be employed in the protection of critical facilities, the security of mobile units and convoys, and the prevention of drone infiltrations along border lines. Within this framework, the system forms a lighter, more mobile, and more cost-effective layer alongside the broader KORKUT air defense architecture. Considering the widespread use of drone swarm attacks in current conflict environments, KORKUT 100/25 appears capable of giving Turkish security forces significant tactical flexibility.
Overall, KORKUT 100/25 stands out as a remarkable solution that combines ASELSAN’s expertise in artificial intelligence, smart ammunition, and mobile air defense into a single platform. If the system’s field testing and integration process continues as planned, it is expected to further strengthen Türkiye’s momentum in counter-drone technologies and reinforce the country’s position in this increasingly important segment of modern defense.
