BREAKING NEWS
ASELSAN's GÖKALP Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Prevention System provides a mobile and cost-effective drone defense solution through its vehicle-integrated architecture. The system demonstrated its operational capabilities during a demonstration conducted at ASELSAN's Oğulbey Technology Base. During the exercise, a target drone detected by the AURA radar was tracked through real-time data transmission via the DRONEDEF command-and-control software to the GÖKALP E1 interceptor drone, which successfully neutralized the target using a direct-impact (hit-to-kill) method.
ASELSAN stands as one of Turkey's most comprehensive defense electronics and systems integration organizations. The company has developed expertise in radar systems, communications, optical sensors, software development, and platform integration, playing a critical role in the defense sector. The GÖKALP system exemplifies ASELSAN's capacity to integrate diverse technology domains into cohesive solutions. The radar, software, and systems integration technologies developed by the company since its establishment form the foundation for such integrated defense systems.
The GÖKALP system presents an integrated defense approach against UAV threats. It combines target detection (AURA radar), data processing and command-and-control (DRONEDEF software), and physical intervention (GÖKALP E1 drone) within a single platform. The hit-to-kill method neutralizes target drones through direct impact, delivering high success rates and rapid response times. By integrating onto mobile platforms, the system addresses the mobile air defense requirements of tactical units.
Turkish defense industry has developed multiple solutions against UAV threats in recent years. Electronic warfare systems, laser-based systems, and kinetic methods are being developed in parallel. GÖKALP, employing a kinetic approach, represents part of this technological diversity. Turkey's strong position in UAV development—evidenced by platforms such as Bayraktar TB2, AKINCI, and ANKA—has simultaneously driven the development of counter-UAV systems. GÖKALP emerges as a response to this operational requirement.
Globally, UAV prevention systems are being developed through various technological approaches. The Patriot air defense system, NASAMS, Avenger systems, and various laser-based solutions operate in different countries. GÖKALP's hit-to-kill method aligns with kinetic defense approaches employed internationally. Through its vehicle-integrated architecture and software-based command-and-control capabilities, the system delivers operational flexibility and rapid response capacity. Turkish defense industry possesses the potential to compete in international markets with such integrated solutions.
