BREAKING NEWS
ASELSAN's GÖKALP Counter-UAV System achieved a significant success during a demonstration conducted at the Oğulbey Technology Base. Within the scope of the activity, the target drone was detected by the AURA radar, and real-time data was transmitted to the GÖKALP E1 interceptor drone via the DRONEDEF system's command and control software. The interceptor drone successfully neutralized the target aircraft using direct impact (hit-to-kill) methodology.
ASELSAN stands as a leading organization in the Turkish defense industrial ecosystem, having developed expertise in electronics, communications, radar, and weapons systems. Since its establishment in 1975, the company has made strategic investments in indigenous technology development and increasing localization rates. The GÖKALP system represents a tangible product of this vision in the air defense domain, demonstrating Turkey's capacity to provide an integrated solution against unmanned aerial vehicles.
The GÖKALP Counter-UAV System detects threats using radar and electro-optical sensors, neutralizing hostile unmanned aerial vehicles in the air through hunter drones operating autonomously. The system provides effective range exceeding 1,000 meters against Class-1 UAVs and over 7,000 meters against Class-2 and Class-3 UAVs. Equipped with a friend-foe identification system (IFF), secure inter-system communication, and artificial intelligence-supported threat elimination algorithms, the system delivers 360-degree coverage. With its vehicle-integrated architecture, GÖKALP provides full mobility and cost-effective counter-UAV protection, deployable on 4×4 vehicles or towed platforms.
Turkish defense industry has achieved significant successes in the operational deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles in recent years. Platforms produced by BAYKAR, including Bayraktar TB2 and AKINCI, have gained widespread international acceptance. Parallel to this, the development of defense systems against these platforms has become a strategic necessity. The GÖKALP system addresses this gap, rendering Turkey's air defense capability multidimensional. The system is designed with high localization rate components, incorporating indigenous radar technology and control software.
The global defense industry is rapidly developing defense systems against unmanned aerial vehicles. Israel's Iron Dome and David's Sling systems, the U.S. NASAMS platform, and various European air defense solutions exemplify developments in this field. When compared to these international systems, GÖKALP provides a cost-effective solution, offering competitive advantage. Capable of operating independently as a team or with the interceptor vehicle alone, the system can also function under higher-level command and control coordination. Its modular architecture enables integration of different interceptors, allowing for future system enhancements.
