BREAKING NEWS
ASELSAN announced through a filing with Turkey's Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) that it has signed a $1.1 billion air defense systems supply contract with an overseas customer. The company confirmed the agreement will contribute to revenue growth but did not disclose the buyer's identity, the specific systems to be delivered, or the delivery schedule. This contract represents a significant development in strengthening ASELSAN's position in the international defense market.
ASELSAN plays a critical role in Turkey's defense industry ecosystem. The company manufactures essential components of Turkey's layered air defense network. With a broad product portfolio including guns, missile launchers, radars and fire control systems, ASELSAN meets the defense requirements of land, air and naval forces. Rising from 43rd to 40th place in the 2026 Defense News Top 100 ranking, ASELSAN became the first Turkish defense company to enter the top 40 and ranks highest among five Turkish firms on this year's list. This achievement demonstrates the company's technological capabilities and market recognition.
ASELSAN's air defense portfolio encompasses short and medium-range systems. The Korkut fire control system coordinates 35-millimeter anti-aircraft guns with HISAR-A+ short-range missile launchers. The HISAR family also includes the HISAR-O system designed for medium-altitude air defense. For long-range protection, ASELSAN collaborates with ROKETSAN and TÜBİTAK SAGE to develop the SIPER air defense system. According to the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), the SIPER system is designed to counter various aerial threats including fighter aircraft, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Turkey's defense industry has taken significant steps toward localization and indigenous production in recent years. ASELSAN's contract demonstrates the maturity level Turkey has achieved in air defense technology and its competitive position in the international market. Air defense systems rank among the most complex and high-value-added products in the defense sector. Success in this field indicates the company's and country's technological capacity. The contract's realization will open new export opportunities for Turkish defense industry and support sector growth.
In the global air defense market, NATO-compliant systems are in high demand. Compared to Western systems such as Patriot, NASAMS and Aegis, the HISAR and SIPER systems developed by ASELSAN and ROKETSAN offer cost-effective and technologically competitive alternatives. Turkey's geographic location and regional security requirements have accelerated the development of these systems. ASELSAN's contract signifies that Turkish air defense systems are gaining international market acceptance and demand.
