ASPİLSAN Energy Industry and Trade Inc. was established in 1981 in the Kayseri Organized Industrial Zone. Like ASELSAN, ROKETSAN, TUSAŞ, HAVELSAN, and İŞBİR Elektrik, ASPİLSAN Energy operates under the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation (TSKGV), which holds 98.32% of its shares.

The company began producing radio batteries in 1985, and in 1993, it commenced the production of aviation and helicopter batteries based on nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) chemistry. Until 1996, rechargeable Ni-Cd batteries were manufactured under Varta license.
