Akkar began its operations in 1985 with the production of hunting rifles and automotive spare parts. In 1989, it transitioned to the production of air rifles and supported other manufacturers in the industry by producing standardized components. The company introduced several first-of-its-kind products to the market, including Türkiye’s first pump-action hunting shotgun in 1992 and the first gas-operated semi-automatic shotgun in 1995. In 2005, over-under shotguns were added to the product portfolio, and in 2012, the company successfully designed and began serial production of triple-barrel break-action shotguns—marking a world first in their category. As of 2014, the break-action shotgun lineup has expanded to include over-under and side-by-side models, along with various sub-gauge options.
These products, characterized by Akkar’s unique design language, showcase the company’s deep expertise and capabilities in shotgun design. Since 2003, Akkar has been operating from its modern 6,800 m² facility in Tuzla, Istanbul, where it conducts processes such as metalworking, woodworking, heat treatment, chemical coating, camouflage coating, mold and fixture design and production, assembly lines, and in-house test firing. With a dedicated engineering team, Akkar has developed its own manufacturing infrastructure and automation systems, enabling the company to build and continuously improve its production capabilities.
Thanks to ongoing investments, Akkar’s manufacturing facilities now boast an annual production capacity of 100,000 smoothbore shotguns. 95% of this production is exported to over 50 countries, with the United States being the primary market.
In the smoothbore shotgun category, Akkar owns registered trademarks including Churchill, Mammut, Altay, Karatay, Apache, Komanchi, Armstrong, Poseidon, Polaris, Orcap, M-2000, FAC 54, and Maxi-Mag. Since 2010, Akkar has embarked on R&D and design activities for the defense, aerospace, and space industries. Efforts have been made to establish the necessary certifications and set up an R&D center to support these activities. With an innovative and tech-savvy management structure, and highly motivated, dynamic R&D and production teams, Akkar continues to lead national and international projects that represent Türkiye on the global stage.
