Passive Radar Systems stand out as one of the most remarkable technologies in modern defense and security concepts. Unlike conventional radars, these systems operate without emitting any electromagnetic signals, using existing broadcasts in the environment to detect targets. This makes them extremely difficult to detect, while also offering a low-cost and silent surveillance capability. Considering the growing electronic warfare threats in today’s combat environments, passive radar systems provide a critical strategic advantage.
From a technical perspective, Passive Radar Systems rely on external signal sources such as radio, television, GSM base stations, and satellite broadcasts. Signals reflected from targets are analyzed to determine their position, speed, and direction. As stealth aircraft have become increasingly difficult to detect with traditional radar systems, the importance of passive radar technology has grown significantly. These systems do not track signals emitted or jammed by the target; instead, they measure disruptions in ambient transmissions. This approach offers a major advantage in detecting low-observable aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, and cruise missiles. Today, passive radar technologies are widely used in areas such as air defense systems, border security, protection of critical infrastructure, and civilian air traffic monitoring.
