BREAKING NEWS
The U.S. Army is preparing to introduce a new weapon system designed to boost infantry effectiveness on the battlefield. Known as the Precision Grenadier System (PGS), this advanced grenade launcher is set to replace the long-serving M320. Built to meet the demands of modern warfare, the system emphasizes lighter weight, compact design, and semi-automatic capability, offering soldiers increased lethality and operational flexibility.
One of the standout features of the PGS is its high-explosive airburst munition system, which will allow soldiers to engage targets effectively in both open terrain and urban combat environments. The Army has outlined its requirements: the weapon should weigh less than 14.5 pounds, measure under 34 inches in length, provide engagement capabilities at a minimum of 500 meters, and enable target identification at ranges up to 800 meters. These specifications highlight its adaptability for diverse combat scenarios.
Currently, the PGS is in the final stages of a competitive evaluation process, with two remaining candidates moving toward a technology demonstration phase. According to reports from Janes, the program shares some similarities with the canceled XM25 project but takes a different approach to deliver a more reliable and combat-ready system.
This development reflects the U.S. Army’s broader modernization efforts, which extend beyond drones and unmanned systems to include continuous upgrades of individual soldier weapons and equipment. Once fielded, the PGS is expected to provide a significant boost to infantry firepower and battlefield effectiveness, marking a key step in the evolution of small arms for the U.S. military.
