BREAKING NEWS
The United States has taken another step to strengthen its defense partnerships in the Middle East. The U.S. Department of State has approved the sale of TOW 2B RF (Radio Frequency) anti-tank missiles to Oman, in a deal valued at $70 million. This agreement highlights Washington’s intent to enhance the defense capabilities of regional allies while supporting political stability and economic progress in the area.
The sale package includes 301 TOW 2B RF anti-tank missiles, along with technical assistance, logistical support, and engineering services. RTX (Raytheon) Missiles & Defense will act as the primary contractor for the deal. The cooperation is expected to bolster the Royal Army of Oman’s defensive strength, allowing it to better counter potential threats in the future.
The TOW 2B missile system is based on the concept of “Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided” technology. However, in the RF variant, radio frequency replaces the traditional wire guidance system. One of its key features is its top-attack capability, designed to strike armored targets from above where they are most vulnerable. Combined with advanced optical tracking, this provides high precision and increased lethality on the battlefield.
Widely adopted by numerous militaries around the world, the TOW 2B family remains one of the most reliable and battle-proven anti-tank solutions. For Oman, this acquisition represents a significant upgrade in its defense posture, while for the U.S., it underscores Washington’s commitment to maintaining both military and political influence in the region.
