BREAKING NEWS
One of the most ambitious projects in Türkiye’s defense and aerospace industry, the National Combat Aircraft (MMU) KAAN, is nearing its maiden flight. Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), this fifth-generation fighter jet is scheduled to take to the skies for the first time on December 27, 2023. According to information reported by Anadolu Agency, the aircraft has successfully passed its load tests, while the assembly process was carried out with utmost precision. Mission systems and subsystems were independently tested before being integrated into the platform.
A crucial step in the final assembly phase is the integration of the engines into the prototype. Following this process, KAAN will undergo slow and then high-speed taxi tests, paving the way for its first flight. The maiden prototype, similar to HÜRJET, will perform its first sortie without paint—a deliberate decision to help engineers detect and address potential issues more easily during test flights. This approach is seen as an essential step to maximize both performance and safety.
KAAN represents not only a technological leap but also a historic milestone in Türkiye’s ability to develop fifth-generation fighter jets. The project underscores the capabilities of Turkish engineers and the strength of local manufacturing, demonstrating the country’s rising aerospace ambitions.
Defense analysts highlight that KAAN’s maiden flight will significantly enhance Türkiye’s standing in the global defense sector. Equipped with stealth features, advanced avionics, and superior maneuverability, KAAN is expected to become a powerful asset both regionally and internationally. This achievement is regarded as one of the most critical milestones in Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to reduce foreign dependency in defense.
