BREAKING NEWS
Türkiye has entered a new era in aviation and defense with the maiden flight of its National Combat Aircraft (MMU), KAAN. Developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), KAAN took to the skies for the first time on February 21, 2024, in Ankara. This historic achievement demonstrated Türkiye’s growing engineering capabilities and its determination to become a global player in advanced defense technologies. Following the flight, Defense Industry Agency President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün met with test pilots and project engineers to highlight the importance of the milestone and outline the next steps for the program.
The development of KAAN underscores the technological mastery and competitiveness of Turkish engineers on the global stage. According to Chief Engineer Emre Yaban, KAAN represents not only Türkiye’s aerospace independence but also its innovative spirit. The integration of indigenous software and hardware systems further distinguishes KAAN from its international competitors.
The road to its maiden flight included a series of critical tests, such as ejection seat trials, static structural testing, avionics integration, and engine runs. Future iterations of KAAN are expected to feature stealth capabilities, including radar-absorbing coatings, which will elevate the aircraft to the ranks of fifth-generation fighters.
KAAN’s maiden flight is more than just a technical milestone—it symbolizes Türkiye’s pursuit of defense independence and technological innovation. The program aims to deliver the first aircraft to the Turkish Air Force in 2028, with additional prototypes set to undergo further testing in the coming years. With this success, Türkiye has taken a major step toward securing its place among nations capable of designing and producing next-generation combat aircraft.
