BREAKING NEWS
Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) continues to strengthen its presence in Africa, where many countries seek dependable and sustainable defense partners. Participating in the EDEX 2025 Defense Fair in Cairo with scaled models of its manned and unmanned aircraft, TAI showcased the breadth of its capabilities and the strategic importance it places on the African market.
In the last five years, the company has signed 14 agreements with 7 African countries, exporting key platforms including the ATAK Helicopter, HÜRKUŞ Basic Trainer Aircraft, ANKA, and AKSUNGUR UAVs. Several deliveries have been completed, while others continue according to planned schedules. Each platform, designed with a life cycle of approximately 25 years, ensures TAI’s long-term presence in these countries—an engagement that began with its first delivery to Tunisia in 2022.
TAI’s wide product range—from basic aviation platforms to next-generation aircraft—allows it to meet the diverse needs of over 40 African nations. Turkish defense systems are widely preferred due to their sustainability, cost-effectiveness, service quality, reliability, and the political independence they offer. Customer satisfaction has also played a major role, as countries that initially choose a single platform often expand their fleets or diversify with additional Turkish systems.
In addition to platform sales, TAI contributes to the development of local human resources and infrastructure. The company trains pilots and technicians for delivered systems and has established engineering laboratories in several African countries as part of its Engineering Development Program. These facilities help train new engineers and support long-term capability-building efforts.
With Baykar and TAI platforms combined, Turkish UAVs are now present in nearly 25 African countries. This growing footprint also creates export opportunities for complementary systems such as electro-optics, munitions, and radar technologies. Overall, Turkish defense products continue to strengthen not only regional military capabilities but also Türkiye’s diplomatic influence across the African continent.
